SANNIQUELLIE, NIMBA COUNTY: — The Ministry of Youth and Sports Nimba County Office, in partnership with ReThink Tech Foundation, has successfully graduated 127 students from its second cohort of the ICT Computer Training Program. The graduation ceremony was held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Sanniquellie Youth Center, marking another significant milestone in efforts to equip young people with digital and technological skills.
The event brought together government officials, community leaders, development partners, trainers, students, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduates. Speakers at the ceremony emphasized the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in creating opportunities for youth employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation in Liberia.
One of the major highlights of the ceremony was a series of commitments announced by the event’s Guest Speaker aimed at strengthening the ICT Computer Laboratory and ensuring the long term sustainability of the training program. The support package includes the payment of the laboratory’s electricity bill for one year, the provision of Skylink Internet services, the installation of a street light within the office compound, the supply of computer desks, and the donation of two air conditioning units for the computer laboratory. The implementation of these commitments is expected to begin next week.
Speaking during the program, the Guest Speaker reaffirmed his dedication to youth empowerment and digital transformation, noting that access to modern technology and a conducive learning environment is essential for preparing young people to compete in today’s technology driven world. He encouraged the graduates to use the skills acquired during the training to create opportunities for themselves and contribute positively to their communities.
In another significant gesture of support, Mrs. Janetta Cooper, a Liberian residing in the United States of America, announced a donation of one laptop computer to each trainer involved in the program. She said the contribution was intended to recognize the trainers’ commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to helping young people acquire valuable ICT skills. Her announcement was met with applause from participants and graduates who described the donation as a meaningful investment in the program’s continued success.
Officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and ReThink Tech Foundation praised the partnership that has made the initiative possible. They noted that the newly pledged support will improve the learning environment for current and future students, provide reliable internet connectivity for research and digital learning, enhance security around the facility through improved lighting, and create a more comfortable atmosphere for both students and equipment through air conditioned laboratory facilities.
The graduation ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the 127 graduates, many of whom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain practical computer skills. Several graduates said the training has equipped them with knowledge that will help them pursue higher education, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial ventures in the growing digital economy.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Nimba County Office extended its appreciation to ReThink Tech Foundation, the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Janetta Cooper, and all partners whose contributions continue to advance youth empowerment and digital skills development across Nimba County. Officials expressed optimism that the program will continue to expand and positively impact the lives of more young people in the years ahead.
