Monrovia — The Interim Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, has officially taken office following a brief but significant ceremony held on October 20, 2025, at the Institute’s headquarters in Congo Town, Monrovia.
Dr. Camanor was warmly received by Mr. Mohammed Kiadii, Acting Deputy Director-General for Administration, who extended a heartfelt welcome on behalf of the management and staff. Mr. Kiadii pledged the full cooperation and commitment of all NPHIL employees to work collaboratively under Dr. Camanor’s leadership to ensure the Institute continues to fulfill its mandate of safeguarding the public health of the Liberian people.
In her first official remarks as Interim Director-General, Dr. Camanor expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for the confidence reposed in her through the Board’s recommendation to serve as Officer-in-Charge and Interim Director-General of NPHIL.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me by His Excellency, President Boakai. This appointment is not just a new role—it marks a new era for NPHIL and for the strengthening, protecting, and elevating of Liberia’s public health systems,” Dr. Camanor stated.
She further extended appreciation to the Minister of Health and Member of the NPHIL Board of Directors, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, for her continuous support and leadership in strengthening Liberia’s health sector.
“I also wish to express profound gratitude to our Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, whose confidence in my leadership and unwavering commitment to building a resilient health sector continue to inspire me. Her trust vested in me is a clarion call to service—a call to lead with courage, competence, and compassion,” Dr. Camanor added.
In special remarks, Minister of Health Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, who graced the occasion, congratulated Dr. Camanor on her preferment and pledged the Ministry’s full cooperation and support to ensure her success in steering NPHIL forward. She urged the staff and employees of the Institute to extend their unwavering support to the Interim Director-General in advancing NPHIL’s mandate of disease prevention, preparedness, and response.
The ceremony marked a moment of renewal and commitment to strengthening Liberia’s public health systems, ensuring effective coordination, and promoting national health security.
