With funding from the World Bank, the Government of Liberia is expected to dedicate several modern markets across Nimba shortly.
The modern markets are located in Saclepea, Flumpa Tappita, Karnwee and Ganta at a cost of US$967,297.02.
During an inspection of one of the markets site in Saclepea in Nimba county, Agriculture Minister Dr. J.Alexander Nuetah thanked the market women for their cooperation during the construction of the market in their area.
” This market is for you, the people, and we are grateful for your cooperation,” Dr. Nuetah said. This is the government way of empowering you to sell your goods in a clean area, and also that at night you can have visibility,” he added.
The modern markets consist a warehouse, flush toilets and a solar power that produces light at night.
According to the minister, the markets will be dedicated this January, and will enhance marketers’ capacity to sell their produce while providing hygienic environment for their livelihood.
Also, the dedication of the market buildings will coincide with the dedication of a modern Vegetable Cold Room valued US$317,681.25.
The modern cold storage will be used to store vegetables, and is located in Whelenla, District #1, Bain, Ganta City.
The Ministry of Agriculture is empowering farmers in producing rice on large scale by giving them seed rice, tools, technical assistance and cash while providing modern cold storage to vegetables producers.
