MONROVIA – The Liberia Football Association (LFA), in collaboration with the British Embassy in Monrovia, officially dedicated two newly renovated, state-of-the-art dressing rooms for female athletes on Saturday, March 14.
Located at the Blue Field in the PHP Community, the project was funded by the British Embassy to provide a safe, modern, and dignified environment for girls. The initiative directly addresses long-standing infrastructural barriers that have historically hindered female participation in competitive sports.
During the dedication ceremony, Simon Tooth, British Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, expressed his optimism for the future of Liberian sports. He emphasized that the refurbishment is a cornerstone of the Embassy’s commitment to helping Liberian girls realize their potential.
“I am delighted that the British Embassy has been able to assist through this refurbishment,” Amb. Tooth stated. “These changing rooms will provide a private, professional space for the girls’ development and national teams to prepare and practice with the dignity they deserve.”
For her part, LFA 3rd Vice President, Mrs. Jodie M. Reid-Seton, thanked the British Embassy, noting that the upgrade aligns perfectly with the LFA’s strategic vision to nurture young talent.
“Today, we are not just opening renovated rooms; we are opening a new chapter for Liberian football,” Reid-Seton said. “By improving the physical environment, we are actively breaking down the barriers that keep girls away from the pitch.”
Meanwhile, Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah, Minister of Youth and Sports, who also attended the event, praised the Embassy for creating a “safe space” for athletes and challenged international partners to continue bridging the gap between current stars and the next generation of players.
The upgraded facilities are designed to meet modern athletic standards, ensuring a hygienic and efficient environment for players.
The renovated facility consists of two fully renovated dressing rooms, six modern shower stalls, four private toilets and a fully integrated running water system.
