Monrovia, Liberia: — The third most powerfullly constitutional Leader of the Republic, the Lead-head of the 55th National Legislature, the unarguably endorsed speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has publicly commended the sweeping transformation underway at Liberia’s Premium information hub, the Ministry of Information, (MOI), describing the institution as a renewed symbol of professionalism, transparency, and modern governance.
During his first official visit to the Ministry since ascending to the Speakership, Speaker Koon toured several newly renovated sections of the institution Friday, including upgraded office spaces, modernized broadcasting and media production studios, and enhanced public engagement facilities.
The visit offered the Speaker a firsthand look at what government officials describe as one of the ministry’s most ambitious infrastructure and operational improvements in recent years.
Accompanied by Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah and senior management staff, Speaker Koon expressed admiration for the visible transformation at MOI, noting that the improvements represent more than cosmetic renovations, but rather a broader effort to reposition the ministry as an effective public communication institution capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving media environment.

“This is a significant improvement not only in the ministry’s physical appearance, but also in its operational capacity and professional image,” Speaker Koon stated during the tour.
“These upgrades further strengthen MOI’s role as the government’s principal communication and information agency while promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.”
The Speaker emphasized that an efficient and well-equipped information ministry remains essential to democratic governance, particularly in ensuring that citizens remain informed about national policies, government decisions, and development initiatives.

According to him, strengthening public communication institutions is critical to narrowing the gap between the government and the Liberian people, especially at a time when misinformation, political polarization, and public distrust continue to challenge governance systems across the region.
Speaker Koon particularly praised Minister Piah and his administration for what he described as visionary leadership and commitment to institutional reform.
He noted that the modernization efforts demonstrate seriousness on the part of the Boakai administration in rebuilding confidence in public institutions and improving government service delivery.
“The work being done here reflects dedication, innovation, and a commitment to serving the Liberian people better,” the Speaker added. “A modern information ministry is indispensable in today’s governance structure.”

The renovations at MOI reportedly include improvements in media production capabilities, upgraded digital communication infrastructure, office rehabilitation, and enhanced working conditions for ministry staff. Officials say the changes are intended to improve efficiency, increase public engagement, and strengthen government messaging nationwide.
In response, Information Minister, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, thanked Speaker Koon for the visit and for recognizing the ministry’s ongoing transformation agenda.
Minister Piah reaffirmed MOI’s commitment to providing accurate, credible, and timely information to the Liberian public while maintaining professionalism, openness, and accountability in government communication.
“We remain committed to ensuring that Liberians have access to reliable information regarding government programs, policies, and national developments,” Minister Piah said. “The ministry is continuously evolving to better serve the people and improve public access to information.”

He stressed that the ministry’s modernization process aligns with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s broader ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, which prioritizes institutional reforms, infrastructure development, transparency, and improved public service delivery across government ministries and agencies.
Political observers say Speaker Koon’s endorsement of the ministry’s transformation carries both symbolic and institutional significance, as it reflects growing legislative support for ongoing reforms within public institutions.
The visit also comes at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen state communication mechanisms amid increasing public demand for accountability, timely information dissemination, and stronger engagement between government and citizens.
For many within the ministry, the Speaker’s remarks are being viewed as a morale booster and validation of months of renovation and restructuring efforts aimed at repositioning MOI as a modern communication hub capable of effectively managing Liberia’s evolving information landscape.

As Liberia continues its governance reform and institutional modernization drive, Friday’s visit underscored the strategic importance of information management and public communication in sustaining transparency, strengthening democracy, and reinforcing public trust in government institutions.
