Monrovia, Liberia: — On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, President Boakai, accompanied by senior government officials and development partners from the Arab Coordination Group (Kuwaiti Fund, BADEA, OFID, and the Saudi Fund) will dedicate the newly completed 81-kilometer Gbarnga–Salayea Road Corridor and officially break ground for the pavement of the 50-kilometer Salayea–Konia Road and the 6-kilometer Zorzor–Yeala Road. The ceremony will take place at the Bong–Lofa County Border Rest Station by the bridge, marking another significant milestone in the implementation of the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
The groundbreaking signals the commencement of another major phase of infrastructure development designed to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade, improve access to essential services, and stimulate economic activities across Lofa County and beyond.
Through the leadership of Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, the Government of Liberia successfully mobilized US$72.8 million in financing from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund), the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development ( Kuwaiti Fund) to finance the upgrading of the 56-kilometer road corridor, comprising the 50-kilometer Salayea–Konia Road and the financing Zorzor–Yeala Road.
The Government has also secured financing commitment from the Saudi Fund for Developmen (the Saudi Fund) to pave the remaining 64-kilometer Konia–Voinjama Road, completing a vital transport corridor that will strengthen connectivity throughout Lofa County and enhance access to neighboring Guinea.
Construction on the newly approved road corridors is expected to commence during the upcoming dry season. The projects will create hundreds of direct and indirect employment opportunities while boosting commerce, agriculture, and investment across the region.
In further demonstration of its commitment to balanced national development, the Government has mobilized an additional US$49.6 million from the Saudi Fund for Development to finance the Botota–Gbarnga–Zorzor Transmission Line and Substation Project. The project will significantly expand electricity access, support industrial growth, and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents in central and northern Liberia.
Recognizing that infrastructure development extends beyond roads and electricity, the Government has also secured a US$700,000 grant from BADEA to finance the renovation, rehabilitation, and equipping of the Salayea Clinic and the Konia Health Center. These investments will strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services for communities along the road corridor.
These transformative investments underscore the Boakai Administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering modern infrastructure, expanding access to essential public services, creating jobs, and fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth. They also reflect the Government’s continued success in mobilizing international development financing through strong partnerships and sound economic diplomacy.
