Carl-Henrik Olalson Jacobsson, Program Officer, Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia making presentation
Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County – The fight against corruption in Liberia received a significant boost on today, September 11, 2025, as the Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) team, with support from the Embassy of Sweden, conducted two separate anti-corruption awareness activities in Buchanan City. The engagements, held in the Gorzohn and God Bless You Hill communities, were designed to foster active community participation and empower residents to report acts of corruption.
The initiative saw the collaboration of Swedish Embassy officials, including Program Officer Carl-Henrik Olalson Jacobsson and his colleague Susanna Elmberger, who joined the ALAC team on the ground. The presence of international partners underscored the importance of grassroots efforts in strengthening national integrity.

A key focus of the engagements was educating citizens on how to report corruption, with a strong emphasis on the 4432 toll-free hotline as a confidential and accessible tool. Residents were encouraged to use the hotline to report any observed or experienced acts of corruption, thereby becoming a direct part of the solution.
During the sessions, Executive Director of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) Mr. Anderson D. Miamen provided a comprehensive overview of the National Integrity Building and Anti-Corruption Program (NIBA), outlining its various focus areas. This was followed by a lecture from Program Officer Siafa S. Kamara, who delved into the different forms of corruption and the available legal redress mechanisms for victims and witnesses.

The event also highlighted current trends in the fight against graft, as Media and Communications Officer Edward W. Blamo presented key findings from the 2024 edition of CENTAL’s “State of Corruption Report (SCORE).” Concluding the presentations, Youth Engagement Coordinator Jerryline T. Wonde spoke on the critical role of gender in the anti-corruption fight, advocating for the empowerment of women and youth to become leaders in the movement for transparency and accountability.
