Kplio Chiefdom, Grand Kru County – Traditional leaders of the Kplio chiefdom in Grand Kru has petition the government of Liberia through the County Legislative Caucus for the governance structure of the Kplio Community.
The petition was read and submitted by Gbadee Nyeswa to the Legislature, through the Grand Kru County Caucus Chair Hon. Nimene T.H. Bartekwa on October 6, 2025 in Barclayville.
According to the petition, prior to the amalgamation policy of the late president William R. Tolbert Jr., the Kplio community was governed by three chiefdoms, but was placed under one chiefdom considered as Kplio Chiefdom by the policy, which the people of the community were constraint to accept.
The communication further states that placing Kplio under one chiefdom has created governance challenges, couple with population growth of about eighteen thousand, and the establishment of more towns in total of 35 across the region.
The release from the traditional leaders of Kplio is recommending for the establishment of three chiefdoms in the community, highlighting Gbalakpo, Flennekan, and Sueh-Marquanken chiefdoms respectfully.
According to them, the petition if granted will improve the governing system, strengthen productivity and safety, and promote fairness, peace, and development in the region.
In conclusion, the petition emphasized that this will not only solve the humanity and social problem but also create a lasting impact for the people of Kplio, Grand Kru County, and Liberia at large.
Meanwhile receiving the petition on behalf of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus, and the entire legislative body, Grand Kru Senator Nimene T.H Bartekwa extended appreciation to the chiefs and elders of Kplio for the step taken.
Hon. Bartekwa disclosed that the petition is in line with the proper channel of how citizens can submit their request to the Legislative body.
