MARYLAND COUNTY, LIBERIA – Maryland County Electoral District #3 Representative Austin B. Taylor has fulfilled a US$3,000 scholarship commitment to students enrolled at the Maryland Vocational Training Institute (MVTI), according to the institution’s administration.
MVTI Director Roland Bailea said the funds, which were recently received from the lawmaker’s office at the Capitol Building, will provide scholarship support for 50 students currently pursuing vocational and technical education at the institute.
The scholarship program was launched on December 23, 2025, when Representative Taylor announced that he would sponsor 50 students from his district to attend MVTI. Under the initiative, 25 beneficiaries were selected from Barrobo District and 25 from Karluway District.
According to Bailea, the scholarship funds will help cover training costs for the beneficiaries, many of whom are enrolled in programs designed to equip them with practical and marketable skills.
He described the disbursement as a fulfillment of the representative’s earlier commitment and noted that the support is expected to ease the financial burden on the students as they continue their vocational training.
Technical and vocational education institutions such as MVTI play a key role in developing skilled manpower by providing training in various trades, improving and promoting opportunities, and promoting entrepreneurship among young Liberians.
The latest scholarship disbursement comes as vocational education continues to receive increased attention as a pathway for addressing youth unemployment and strengthening workforce development in Liberia.
