MONROVIA, June 1, 2026 — Montserrado County District #1 Representative, Hon. Yatu Rugie Barry, has been recognized among a select group of Liberian lawmakers who achieved a perfect score in the 2026 Legislative Constituency Break Monitoring Report released by NAYMOTE Partners for Democratic Development.
The report, which evaluated lawmakers’ engagement with constituents during the official constituency break from March 19 to May 8, 2026, assessed representatives based on four accountability benchmarks: constituency visits, town hall meetings, radio appearances, and formal reporting to citizens.
According to the findings, Representative Barry successfully met all four requirements, earning a score of 4 out of 4. The assessment was conducted by 75 trained county observers across Liberia using a standardized monitoring framework designed to measure legislative accountability and citizen engagement.
The report listed Hon. Barry under Entry No. 54, confirming that she visited her constituency, held town hall meetings, participated in radio discussions, and formally reported to her constituents during the break period.
The achievement comes amid findings that a majority of lawmakers did not fully engage their constituents. NAYMOTE reported that approximately 74 percent of representatives failed to provide formal reports to citizens during the constituency break, raising concerns about accountability and communication between elected officials and the people they serve.
In a statement issued by her office, Representative Barry welcomed the report, describing it as an important demonstration of democratic accountability and responsible leadership. The statement emphasized that her engagement with citizens reflects a commitment to transparency, accessibility, and effective representation.
The office further noted that throughout the constituency break, the lawmaker remained actively involved in community activities, public consultations, and media engagements aimed at keeping citizens informed about legislative developments and district initiatives.
Representative Barry also commended NAYMOTE for its role in promoting good governance and strengthening democratic institutions through independent monitoring and evidence-based assessments.
The office thanked the residents of District #1 for their continued support. It reaffirmed the lawmaker’s commitment to maintaining close ties with constituents and ensuring that their concerns remain represented at the national level.
NAYMOTE’s Legislative Constituency Break Monitoring initiative is widely regarded as one of Liberia’s key accountability tools, providing citizens with independent information on the performance and accessibility of their elected representatives.
