Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County —Healthcare delivery in Grand Bassa County received a significant boost this weekend as technicians from the Ministry of Health (MOH) officially completed the installation of a brand-new 60kVA generator at the Government Hospital in Buchanan.
The installation, finalized on Saturday, April 4, marks a critical milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize medical infrastructure. The high-capacity power plant was procured directly by the Government of Liberia to address long-standing energy challenges that often hindered nighttime operations and the use of life-saving medical equipment.

With this new 60kVA unit, the hospital—a primary referral hub for thousands of residents in the region—now has a stabilized power source.
Authorities believe this investment will facilitate uninterrupted surgeries by ensuring that operating theaters remain powered during critical procedures. The move will also enhance maternity services by improving safety for mothers and newborns during nighttime deliveries among others.
The arrival of the generator is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the national health system. By prioritizing “Service Delivery,” the government aims to reduce preventable deaths caused by infrastructure failures with many local residents and hospital staff welcoming the development.
Consistent energy supply remains the backbone of any stronger health system worldwide.
