Monrovia, Liberia – The Sinoe University Students Union (SUSU) has dismissed allegations of political favoritism, lack of transparency, and mismanagement surrounding the Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) Scholarship Program, describing the claims as false, misleading, and without factual basis.
In a press release issued on June 29, 2026, SUSU said the publication in question misrepresented the scholarship program by presenting unverified allegations as facts. The union maintained that the program has continued to provide educational opportunities to qualified students from Sinoe County and rejected suggestions that scholarships are being distributed on political grounds.
SUSU further stated that it has consistently played a key role in coordinating the scholarship process and emphasized that there is no official record supporting claims that the Sinoe Legislative Caucus accused the student union of selling scholarship opportunities.
The union also denied reports alleging that Representatives Thomas Romeo Quioh and Samson Wiah currently administer the scholarship program, describing those assertions as inaccurate and capable of misleading the public.
Additionally, SUSU rejected allegations that members of the Sinoe Legislative Caucus are selling scholarships or awarding them based on political affiliation, arguing that such claims were published without verifiable evidence.
The student body urged media institutions and journalists to uphold professional standards by ensuring accuracy, fairness, balance, and proper fact-checking before publishing stories. It warned that the spread of unverified information undermines public confidence and damages the reputations of individuals and institutions.
While reaffirming its respect for press freedom, SUSU stressed that media organizations must exercise that freedom responsibly and avoid disseminating information that has not been verified.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and equal access to educational opportunities, urging the public to rely on official sources for accurate information regarding the GVL Scholarship Program.
