MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), in collaboration with key public health stakeholders, has commenced a three-day technical meeting to revise the National Rapid Response Team (RRT) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The meeting, which began on August 5, 2026, will conclude on August 7, 2026.
The revision process is aimed at strengthening Liberia’s emergency response capacity by establishing a more effective and efficient deployment framework for Rapid Response Teams.
The updated SOPs will serve as a critical guide for coordinating timely and effective responses to infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies across the country.
The initiative forms part of Liberia’s commitment to implementing the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy, which seeks to enhance the country’s ability to detect, verify, and respond promptly to priority disease outbreaks.
Strengthening county-level response capacity remains a key priority, ensuring that local response teams are adequately prepared to investigate and contain public health threats before they escalate.
Participants are reviewing existing operational procedures and incorporating lessons learned from previous outbreak responses to ensure that the revised SOPs reflect current best practices and international standards.
By the end of the meeting, participants are expected to validate a revised National RRT Standard Operating Procedures document that will include enhanced guidance on Surge capacity management, including the composition, mobilization, and coordination of Rapid Response Teams, Pre-deployment, deployment, and post-deployment procedures to ensure effective planning, field operations, staff welfare, reporting, and after-action review.
The revised SOPs will provide a standardized framework for rapid deployment and coordinated emergency response, ultimately improving Liberia’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies in a timely and efficient manner.
