Monrovia, Liberia – Representative Kerkula Muka Kamara has welcomed the approval of the proposed Anti-Corruption Court Bill, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening accountability and the rule of law in Liberia.
Speaking on OK FM, Rep. Kamara emphasized the need for tougher measures against individuals accused of corruption, arguing that corruption cases should be treated with greater seriousness.
“We cannot continue to treat corruption cases like ordinary offenses. Anyone charged with corruption should remain under the control of the court and should not be allowed to go home while the matter is pending,” Rep. Kamara stated.
The lawmaker further proposed that corruption-related offenses be made non-bailable, stressing that such a measure would help deter the misuse of public resources and ensure that accused individuals face the judicial process without interference.
“Corruption has robbed our people of development for too long. If we are serious about fighting corruption, then we must adopt stronger laws and stricter enforcement measures,” he said.
Rep. Kamara also commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for submitting the bill, noting that the creation of a specialized Anti-Corruption Court would enhance the country’s efforts to prosecute corruption cases more efficiently.
“The Anti-Corruption Court will help speed up the prosecution of corruption cases and send a clear message that no one is above the law,” he added.
The proposed Anti-Corruption Court is expected to play a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and public confidence in Liberia’s justice system as the nation intensifies its fight against corruption.
