MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a consignment of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) supplies to the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response capacity for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and other infectious disease threats.
Presenting the supplies on behalf of WHO, Rhoda Elizabeth King Marshall said the donation forms part of the organization’s continued support to Liberia’s health sector and its commitment to ensuring the country remains prepared to detect, prevent, and respond effectively to public health emergencies.
She noted that the IPC supplies will be used by NPHIL’s National Reference Laboratory to promote safe laboratory practices, strengthen biosafety and biosecurity measures, protect laboratory personnel and frontline health workers, and enhance the country’s overall readiness to respond to Ebola Virus Disease and other emerging infectious diseases.
According to Ms. Marshall, maintaining adequate IPC resources is critical to preventing healthcare-associated infections, safeguarding essential health services during outbreaks, and ensuring that laboratory personnel can safely handle infectious specimens in line with international standards.
Receiving the supplies on behalf of NPHIL, Mr. Eric Miller, Administrative Officer, National Reference Laboratory, expressed sincere appreciation to WHO for its continued partnership and timely support.
He emphasized that the donation comes at a crucial time as Liberia continues to reinforce its Ebola preparedness measures through nationwide surveillance, laboratory strengthening, and emergency response planning.
